The best Chocolate chip Cookie recipe ever.png

One of the many perks of becoming a Welk is that they can make some of the best cookies ever. Honestly, the goodies Aaron's family creates could easily beat any bakery I've ever been to. Lucky you, they taught me how to make them too. I promise you will never make another chocolate chip cookie recipe after you try these.

The secret? Crisco. I know, I know, all of the healthy nuttiness inside of me tried to fight it. I absolutely would not use it the first several years of our marriage and then one day Aaron convinced me to try this recipe with the Crisco and guess what. It's the secret. So, if you're like me and seriously despise the fake fat, I hear ya...you make the call, but I will tell you that they are not the same without it.

Here’s the cookie scoop I love using, it makes the perfect size cookies - plus it makes scooping out all of the dough so much easier. Our kids love using it which is a big win in the baking together game! If you’d like even more of our tried and true family recipes check out our Red Tin Treat ECookBook , it’s filled with 20 + recipes that our event guests and family request over and again.

The Famous Welk Family Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter (room temperature)

  • 1/2 cup shortening

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 1/2 cups flour

  • 3/4 a bag of Chocolate Chips

Preheat the oven to 375.

In a large mixing bowl beat the butter, shortening and sugars together on medium speed until well combined. Add in the eggs and vanilla and beat for 1 minute. Mix in the baking soda, salt and flour until combined. Add in the chocolate chips.

Drop tablespoon size scoops onto a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Or until the edges are slightly brown and the middle is starting to crack. They'll look puffy and almost not done...this is when you want to take them out. Once they cool they will be the perfect crisp on the edge and soft in the middle.

Now tell me, what recipe does your family make that you think is just simply the BEST EVER. Send it to me! I love trying new recipes, especially ones that come with serious family bragging rights.

Do you want more amazing recipes like this one? We filled our book Dinner Changes Everything with over 40 recipes, 6 complete menus and yes...some of our favorite desserts! Hello Salted Caramel Squares - I've heard people say they are buying the book for that recipe alone, ha!

Cheers to filling your home with delicious food and time together.
